Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS)

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program is a voluntary program designed to assist working families receiving Section 8 / Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) to become more economically independent and self-sufficient.  A portion of rent increases based on earned income is placed into an interest bearing account.  With the support of local agencies, FSS combines case management, education, job training, and on-going support to aid the family in becoming self-sufficient.

Assistance is provided with the following:

          * Determining person and career goals

          * Identifying barriers to achieving goals

          * Listing resources required for success

          * Developing a plan to achieve goals

          * Identifying and obtaining supportive services

          * Case management services, encouragement and moral support

To accomplish the goals and objectives in their service plans, FSS participants need to address barriers preventing their success.  The FSS Program collaborates with local agencies and service providers to provide access to services that address a wide variety of family issues including, but not limited to:

Job placement

Education

Financial planning & budgeting

Transportation

Parenting skills

Substance abuse counseling

Child Care

Job seeking and retention skills

Career and vocational counseling

Individual & family counseling
